Germany 1948 – Compact – 35 mm – Rare.
The Casca camera, introduced in 1948, is widely regarded as one of the finest 35 mm designs of its era.
However, production was abruptly halted after just one year due to a legal dispute with Leitz, the creators of the Leica. Although the lawsuit centered around copyright issues, many believe the true motivation was that Casca posed a significant threat to the upcoming Leica M3.
Two models were released during this brief production period: the Casca 1 and the Casca 2, the latter featuring an advanced rangefinder. Both models are celebrated for their innovative features, including a unique back slider for speed selection, a one-finger focusing wheel, an expansive viewfinder with bright-lines for various focal lengths, and a flip-up back for easy film loading.
With fewer than 2,000 units ever produced, these cameras have become highly coveted collectibles.
